Warhawks Sweeps Triangular
NEW SHARON – North Mahaska hosted Cardinal, HLV and Montezuma Dec. 14 in a wrestling triangular. Using the strength of six wrestlers going 3-0 on the night North Mahaska defeated Cardinal 54-24, HLV 66-6 and Montezuma 48-34.
Trace Goemaat at 285 pounds pinned Cardinal’s Isaac Cox in 2 minutes 16 seconds then earned two forfeits. Joel DeJong at 106 also had a pin and a pair of forfeits. He pinned Gavin McClure of Cardinal in 1 minute. P.J. Stout duplicated the effort with a pin of Keegan Peden of Cardinal in 28 seconds and grabbed forfeits at 138.
Michael DeJong (145) pinned Cardinal’s Tristin Cloke in 2:45 and Brody Sternhagen of HLV in 1:58 before receiving a forfeit. Wyatt VanWeelden picked up two pins at 152 pounds. He scored a fall over Cardinal’s Ty McIntosh in :39 and pinned Max Henstorf of HLV in 1:38. He received a forfeit against Montezuma. Austin McMahan went 3-0 with a pin of HLV’s Tyler Ballard in 3:47 and a pair of forfeits.
Three other wrestlers, Jalayna Shipley, Hunter Wernli and Jacob Beyer finished 2-1 on the night. All the team’s wrestlers posted at least one win on the night.
North Mahaska ends the pre-Christmas season at the Pella tournament Saturday.
