Wanda Joyce Doak, 85, of Oskaloosa and formerly of Hedrick, died Monday, January 23, 2017, at Mahaska Health Partnership in Oskaloosa. She was born Sunday, August 30, 1931, in Mystic, Iowa, the daughter of Gilbert and Elma Frazell Best.

Joyce graduated from high school in Wichita, Kansas in 1948 and later attended Iowa Success School in Ottumwa where she completed clerical training.

On February 9, 1951, Joyce was united in marriage to Roger Doak at Cheyenne, Wyoming. Roger died on December 13, 2012.

Joyce worked for several years at Doud Stone and Hartford-McIntire.

She enjoyed needle point, crosswords and loved astrology. Joyce had a passion for politics and even ran for office on the county level. She was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary.

She is survived by her two daughters: Carla Doak of Hedrick and Corby (& Ron) Phillips of Keota; three sons: David Doak of Bellbrook, Ohio, Douglas (& Tami) Doak of University Park and Glen Doak of Fresno, California; 20 grandchildren; 26 great grandchildren; and a great great grandchild.

She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband.

As was her wish, Joyce’s body has been cremated.
No visitation is planned at this time.
A private family memorial service will be held at a later date. Fremont Funeral Chapel is in charge of the arrangements.
Memorials may be made to the Homestead Memory Unit in Oskaloosa.
