Volunteers Make a Difference at the Lacey Recreation Complex
Oskaloosa, Iowa – MCRF has tracked near 400 volunteer hours in the 2012 season so far at the Lacey Recreation Complex. “Volunteers are the heart of the complex.” said Sherry Vavra, executive director for MCRF. She added when talking about time given, “These hours tracked include those who give back extra time to help keep the complex one of the best in the state.
There are many more hours given from coaches, board members, assistants, event participants, etc. to run individual sports programs. We have not tracked all of those hours but are looking at that for the future.”
Sherry named some of her volunteers stating, “Carl Drost and Martin Roepke are two of our regular volunteers who work on seeding, fertilization, mowing, clearing land for parking lots and much more at the complex and other MCRF projects as well.
Babe Ruth gives back after each game, grooming the fields before leaving the complex, Mahaska County Soccer prepares their fields before each game by painting lines. So many people helping make it possible to keep the complex appealing, safe and sustainable and we appreciate every one of our volunteers.” MCRF is made up of a volunteer board and several volunteer committees meet regularly to discuss development and operations at the complex.
