Virginia L. Beach, 89, of Oskaloosa and formerly of Aurora, Colorado, died Wednesday, October 19, 2016, at the MHP Hospice Serenity House in Oskaloosa. She was born July 21, 1927, at the Mahaska County Hospital in Oskaloosa, the daughter of James Ralph and Bernice Hinkle Beach.
Virginia completed country school at Buckeye School in Mahaska County. She graduated from Oskaloosa High School with the class of 1944, and earned her B.S. in commerce from the University of Iowa.
Following graduation from college she headed to the west coast to look for work. After a brief stay in California and Oregon, she moved to Washington D.C. and went to work at the Pentagon. She later took a job with the United States Air Force as a civilian office secretary. That position took her to Germany where she worked for nearly 10 years. She moved back to the United States and settled in Aurora, Colorado. She continued to work for the Air Force until 1992, when she retired after over 40 years of service. In April of 2016, she moved to Oskaloosa to be near her family.
Virginia enjoyed traveling, skiing, riding motorcycles and golfing, she was especially proud of the two aces she had during her golfing days.
Her family includes her brother, Joseph Beach of Cedar Rapids; two nieces: Margaret (& Herb) Strasser of Oskaloosa and Pam Seich of Robins, Iowa; and two nephews: Tom (& Cindy) Jackson and Mark (& JoAnn) Jackson all of Rose Hill.
Virginia was preceded in death by her parents; and a sister, Dorothy Jackson.
As was Virginia’s wish her body has been cremated.
No visitation is planned.
A private family burial will be held at a later date in the Forest Cemetery in Oskaloosa. The Bates Funeral Chapel is in charge of the arrangements.
