Virginia Dalbey, age 91, passed away on Monday, July 6, 2020 at The Haven in Ottumwa, IA. Virginia was born on April 25, 1929 at Butler, IA, the daughter of Maurice and Hazel Mae Rhoads Aldridge.

Virginia attended Prairie No. 6 country school and graduated from Hedrick High School with the Class of 1946.

She was united in marriage to Floyd Richard Dalbey on March 26, 1949 in Altoona, IA. To this union, 5 children were born: Craig, Bryan, Paula, Lisa and Tracy. Floyd preceded her in death on January 19, 2013.

Virginia was a homemaker her whole life. She was a member of the Fremont United Methodist Church, United Methodist Women, International Order of Kings Daughters, CCC Club, the 40’s Club, Cedar Creek Card Club, Ottumwa Women’s Club and the Old Stuart PTA. She founded and led the 60 Plus Club in Fremont for years.

Virginia’s whole life was dedicated to her family and her church. She was an excellent seamstress and cook, known especially for her pies. She loved taking pictures of sunrises, sunsets and birds. We joked that you had to strain to see the birds in the pictures but that didn’t stop her.

She is survived by one son, Bryan (& Sarah) Dalbey on El Cajon, CA; three daughters: Paula (& Tom) Greteman of Norwalk, IA, Lisa (& Neil) Albertson of Fremont and Tracy (& LeRoy) Dalbey-Short of Independence, MO.; 13 grandchildren: Jeremey Dalbey, Jamie (& Jess) Schadt, Joel Dalbey, Graham Dalbey, Emily Weir, Kelli Woody, Jason Greteman, Courtney (& Drew Taylor) Greteman, Travis (& Dixie) Albertson, Casey (& Ashley) Albertson, Britney (& Mark) Constanzo, Cole Short and Mason Short; 19 great-grandchildren with 2 on the way; and one sister-in-law, Cleo Aldridge.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; one son, Craig; two brothers, Edward Aldridge and Fred Aldridge; and two sisters, Evelyn Stocking and Mary Burtis.

Funeral services will be held Monday, July 13, 2020, at 10:00 a.m. in the Fremont United Methodist Church in Fremont with Pastor Bob Voels officiating.
Burial will be in the Cedar Township Memorial Cemetery in Fremont. The Fremont Funeral Chapel is in charge of the arrangements.
According to the rules put in place by the Iowa Department of Public Health, proper social distancing and reasonable personal protective equipment is advised for attending a religious public event.
The funeral will be live streamed at the Bates Funeral Home’s YouTube Channel for those wishing to support the family from a distance.
Visitation will begin Sunday, July 12, at 2:00 p.m. in the Fremont Funeral Chapel and the family will be at the funeral chapel from 2-4 Sunday afternoon to greet friends and relatives.
Memorials may be made to Fremont United Methodist Church, The Haven Activity Fund or Hospice of Wapello/Davis County.
