Van Weelden arraigned in Court

Willie VanWeelden presided over the Mahaska County Supervisor meeting on April 4th, 2011 in his role as Chairman

Mahaska County Supervisor Willie Van Weelden was formally arraigned in court this past week. According to documents obtained by Osky News, Van Weelden faces one count of Theft in the First Degree, a Class C Felony, Felonious Conduct in Office, a Class D Felony, and Tampering with Records, an aggravated misdemeanor. He has entered a plea of not guilty on all charges.

Van Weelden waived his right to an arraignment in an open court meaning that rather than appearing before a judge, a written arraignment and plea of not guilty was filed in Mahaska County Court. In addition, Van Weelden waived his right to a speedy trial.

A criminal charge is merely a criminal charge and not an indication of guilt. All suspects should be considered innocent until proven guilty.
