USSSA ends in wins for Osky softball
The Oskaloosa Sweet Heat team hosted a two-day girls softball tournament, the “Lacey Fall Smash”, over the weekend at the Lacey Recreation Complex with over 30 teams participating. Several Oskaloosa teams signed up as well as teams from Adel, Albia, Ankeny, Central Iowa, Des Moines, Fairfield, Grinnell, Indianola, Knoxville, Lynville, Montezuma, Ottumwa, Pella, Pleasantville, Sigourney, and Urbandale. “Great tournament! Thanks for having us,” said a coach from Indianola at the end of Sunday. Tina Schaffner, Sweet Heat coach and organizer of the tournament stated, “I think it went well, really well! I don’t think we could have asked for a better weekend, a little hot but great!” Despite that heat near 400 players competed in front of over 1,000 spectators each day. Oskaloosa Blaze won first place in the 10U silver division, with Iowa Outlaws winning in the 10U gold division and Osky Sweet Heat taking 2nd. In the 12U silver division Knoxville was the winner and for 12U Gold division first place went to Grinnell Tigers Attack. And in the 14U Gold division Osky Rebel came in second with Ottumwa taking the trophy. USSSA softball will be hosting tournaments twice more this fall season.
