Skunk River Arts Festival

The Fine Arts and Cultural Events (FACE) board announces the schedule for the upcoming Skunk River Arts Festival highlighted by Main Street Oskaloosa’s Art on the Square on Saturday, June 9. Activities are as follows:

Wednesday, June 6, 2012 – Up & Coming Artist Show, 4:30 – 6:30 pm, Iowa Building, corner of High and Market is the site.

Thursday, June 7, 2012 – Oskaloosa City Band Concert 8 – 9 pm, celebrating their 100th Anniversary Year. Pre-concert entertainment to be announced. Historic Downtown Square is the site.

Friday, June 8, 2012

Friday After Five, 5 – 8 pm, Live entertainment, food, and children’s activities in Downtown Square. Music by Small Town Superheros and food by Hy-Vee.

Saturday, June 9, 2012

Main Street Art on the Square, 10 – 4 pm, Downtown Square show features art of locally and nationally known artists. View & purchase art, enjoy children’s activities, music, food & more. Awards and drawing for $5,000 in purchase prizes at noon. Buy raffle tickets before noon at $5 each or 5 for $20. Proceeds to FACE. Art Awards to be presented at 1:30 pm.

Historic Walking Tour

Enjoy a walking tour with former Jr. Main Street member Charlie Comfort. The tour is designed to take you back in time to historic downtown Oskaloosa. Sample the rich history and feel the unique atmosphere of Oskaloosa’s town square. Sign up at Jr. Main Street booth. Tours are at 1:30 pm and 2:30 pm.

The “Art” of Wine & Food Pairing

Enjoy a tasty lesson on which foods to serve with which wine. Watch Ruthi and the Book Vault Kitchen work their magic, 2 – 4 pm. Book Vault is located on the west side of the Square. Advance registration suggested; $7 per person; call 641.676.1777.

Ropemakers at the Nelson Pioneer Farm

Public is invited to watch the American Ropemakers Guild demonstrate their skills at event from 10 – 4. Call 641.672.2989.
