September 6, 2013 – Oskaloosa, IA – United Way of Mahaska County’s 6th annual Day of Caring on September 12 is set to make some positive changes in our community. 120 volunteers are ready to help out at places local nonprofits like Kids Corner Childcare and Nelson Pioneer Farm, as well as the downtown bandstand and other projects throughout town.

United Way of Mahaska County Director Amy Langdon says, “It’s easy to forget how much a day’s work can impact your community. But a few hours painting or gardening can really brighten up a local nonprofit or bring joy to an elderly homeowner.”

The theme for this year’s Day of Caring is “A House Divided, Live United.” Volunteers are encouraged to wear their favorite Iowa gear to get ready for the weekend football matchup of Iowa State versus Iowa. On September 12, volunteers will be at any of the many project locations working together to show support for their team and their community.

All of these projects are possible because of the generous support of our sponsors and the willingness of our volunteers.

Thanks to this year’s sponsors: Hawkeye Real Estate, Medicap Pharmacy, MidWestOne Bank, Smokey Row, Book Vault, Gardner-Collier Jewelry, Grate Expectations, Signature Salon, Taso’s, Thomas J. Bowie, DDS, Sherwin Williams, and True Value Hardware.
