Oskaloosa, Iowa – Special Grants Dollars in 2012: United Way of Mahaska County distributes $30,000 in Special Grants in response to local community needs.

The Board of Directors at United Way of Mahaska County has distributed an additional $30,000 in special grant funding to local 501(c)3 human services organizations, in response to a growing need for support as we head into the fall and winter months.

“This time of year is a great time of year to extend some additional funding to our local nonprofits, as they begin to head into the fall and winter months and sometimes need some additional financial support to make it through the rest of the year,” explains United Way Executive Director, Brianne Fitzgerald. “This process also gives United Way of Mahaska County an opportunity to support other nonprofits who we were not able to support earlier in the year with our larger granting cycle.”

Current funding priorities during this grant process were around meeting basic needs, while supporting Education, Financial Stability and Health. The nine 501(c)3 human services agencies that received funding include:

  • Crisis Intervention Services
  • Ecumenical Cupboard
  • North Mahaska Schools Fitness Center
  • Peek-a-Boo Point Childcare Center
  • American Red Cross
  • Oskaloosa Peer Helpers
  • Mahaska County YMCA
  • Love in the Name of Christ
  • New Hope Community Center

The mission of United Way of Mahaska County is Leading People to LIVE UNITED with a vision to improve lives for a better tomorrow. More than just a fundraising organization, the organization works to bring neighbors and resources together in our community.
