UNITED WAY 2012 PARTNER AGENCY APPLICATIONS AVAILABLE
United Way of Mahaska County is now accepting applications from qualified 501(c) 3 human services agencies for 2012 funding.
“The United Way of Mahaska County is committed to creating real and lasting change,” said Brianne Fitzgerald, Executive Director. “This year we are placing a strong emphasis on outcomes and accountability for each agency chosen for funding in 2012. We need to make measurable improvements to the day to day lives of the people in our county, by focusing on the three building blocks for creating a better life-education, income and health. By doing this, we ensure that families become stronger, healthier and more financially stable. The United Way’s investment process is a genuine reflection of our commitment to our community, and creating a better life for everyone.”
To qualify, an agency must be established as a human service tax-exempt organization under the IRS Code Section 501(c) 3. The allocation packet requests agency information in the areas of: constitution and bylaws, management, financial reports, statement of cooperation and statement of nondiscrimination. The agency must additionally meet the funding criteria, financial accountability, community needs, program priorities and effectiveness. Those agencies wishing to be considered for 2012 allocations must return the funding application by noon on January 6, 2012.
The United Way of Mahaska County and its partner agencies share two common goals in the allocation process relative to the overall mission: 1) To fund real community needs as fully as possible and 2) To allocate available funds for optimum effect among these needs.
“Before your gift to United Way is invested in our community, a diverse group of local volunteers serving on the United Way of Mahaska County Community Investment Team and Board of Directors decide where the funds will be invested,” explains Fitzgerald. “The volunteers listen to presentations by agencies requesting funding, and review the program applications to learn what their programs do for our community. The allocations process is so much more than just distributing funds. It’s an opportunity to learn more about your community, and help make a difference.”
