Two-spot leap for Central in wrestling rankings
PELLA — A pair of tournament championships for Central College wrestlers C.J. Pestano (senior, Torrance, Calif.) and Cam Timok (junior, Glen Allen, Va., Hermitage HS) had different effects for each in the individual rankings.
The Dutch went from No. 15 to No. 13 in the team rankings.
Pestano was able to move up a spot to No. 2 at 125 pounds while Timok stayed put at No. 3 in the 133-pound rankings. In the title bout at Millikin, Pestano pinned No. 9 Travis Jones of the host school in the first period. It’s his only meeting against a ranked opponent this year.
Timok has also only had one match against a ranked opponent, escaping for a 2-1 triple overtime victory against No. 7 Michael Triplett of Loras College to win the Super 8 Invitational. On the season he is 8-0 with five pins and two major decisions.
Iowa Conference foes Wartburg College, Loras College and Coe College are No.1, No. 8 and No. 145 in the second edition of the rankings. Pestano and Timok are among 15 conference wrestlers ranked in the top-10 at their weight classes.
The dual season for the Dutch begins Thursday at No. 15. The dual in Cedar Rapids is set to start at 7 p.m.
