Two in Top Five at Ottawa Invite

Blue Springs, Mo.–Paced by two top-five finishers, the William Penn men’s golf team finished in the middle of the pack at the Ottawa Invitational Wednesday and Thursday.

The Statesmen placed third out of five teams with a two-round score of 624 (318-306) at the par-72 Adams Pointe Golf Course. Host Ottawa won the event at 611 (303-308), while Collin Kasitz of William Jewell was the tournament medalist at even-par 144 (72-72).

The duo of Zachary Chegwidden (Jr., Essex, England, Business Management), with scores of 78 and 76, and Oliver Stanway (Jr., Leicester, England, Sports Management), with scores of 79 and 75, topped the navy and gold as they tied for fourth at 154.

Spencer Tucker (Fr., Oskaloosa, Iowa, Business Management) was next, just missing the top 10 as he tied for 12th at 157 (78-79).

Oscar Florez Martinez (So., Gignon, Spain, Business Management) tied for 15th at 159 (83-76), and Juan Lugo (Fr., Lecheria, Venezuela) rounded out the varsity at 163 (83-80) to tie for 17th.

Individually, Tony Rocha (Jr., West Branch, Iowa, Business Management) was in a tie for 24th at 174 (82-92), while Ethan Kaiser (So., Belle Plaine, Iowa, Education) was 30th. Kaiser carded a 90 on Monday, but withdrew from competition on Tuesday.

Next Up: William Penn travels to Kansas City, Mo. next Monday and Tuesday to compete in the Virginia McCoy Classic. Play will be contested at The Deuce Golf Course.
