Trio of Dutch athletes recognized by league
PELLA— Central College football linebacker Sam Norgaard (senior, Naperville, Ill., Neuqua Valley HS), football kicker Jon Alberts (sophomore, Huntley, Ill.) and men’s cross country runner Mark Fairley (senior, Dubuque) were cited by the Iowa Conference for their efforts last week.
Norgaard, the co-defensive player of the week, piled up a career-best 22 tackles in a 30-19 win over Coe College Saturday. Of his 22 stops, 12 were solo efforts and he also had a quarterback hurry.
In five conference games, Norgaard leads the league with 71 tackles.
Alberts has won the special teams player of the week award three of a possible seven times this season. He went 3-for-3 in Saturday’s victory on field goals from 20, 38 and 40-yards. His 40-yard connection was a career-best. Alberts is 11-for-11 on field goals this fall.
After a bye week this weekend, Central football will host Loras College on Saturday, October 28 at 1 p.m.
Running at the Jim Drews Invitational hosted by the University of Wisconsin – La Crosse, Fairley finished sixth in season-best time of 25 minutes, 22 seconds. The Dutch finished 11th of 21 teams.
Central has a weekend off from competition before heading to the Iowa Conference Championships in Waverly on October 28.
