Triangular track meet sees Central women take second
INDIANOLA — The Central College women’s track team had individuals win four events en route to a runner-up finish at a triangular hosted by Simpson College Saturday.
The Dutch compiled 124 points across 19 events, but Nebraska Wesleyan University’s 179 points took the team title. Simpson was third with 71 points.
Sprinter Kate Patton (senior, Murray) ran a season-best 12.65 seconds in the 100-meter dash to take the crown. She also was fourth (26.38 seconds) in a loaded 200-meter dash field.
“Those were both good runs for her,” associate head coach Jim Fuller said. “She also ran on both relays so she put in a lot of work today.”
Patton ran the second leg of the winning 4×400-meter relay team (4 minutes, 10.40 seconds) with Paige Doehrmann (sophomore, Lone Tree), Jenna Willett (freshman, Conrad, BCLUW HS) and Lynzie Miller (junior, Des Moines, Lincoln HS).
The 400-meter hurdles crown went to Miller, clocking in at 1:09.56.
Clearing the bar at 5 feet, 1.25 inches, freshman Courtney Kruthoff (Erie, Ill.) won the high jump title with her career-best outdoor mark.
“Courtney’s been batting some soreness in calf,” Fuller said. “Her approach is a little off but it’s getting there. And she’s feeling better so that’s good.”
Fuller also cited the determination of Lauren Moll (sophomore, Faribault, Minn.) in the 1,500-meter run. Moll was the third finisher in 5:05.84.
“Lauren really competed hard,” he said. “She stayed in there the whole time and battled.”
Dutch track teams will be spread around the Des Moines area next weekend. The majority of the team will be back in Indianola for the Kip Janvrin Open while some will be at the Drake Relays in Des Moines.
