Trevor White Wins Slim Victory In Poweshiek County Supervisor Race
Montezuma, Iowa – Poweshiek County residents headed to the polls this Tuesday to choose a new supervisor after the passing of Ellie Snook.
At the January 5th, 2012 regular meeting, shortly after Snook’s death, a decision was made on how to handle the vacancy. “In compliance with the Code of Iowa, the Committee has come to a unanimous decision. By the authority vested in the Committee Diana Dawley, Auditor; Beverly Malloy, Recorder; Lana Taylor, Treasurer we unanimously call a Special Election to fill the vacancy in lieu of appointment. Signed this 3rd day of January 2012. Diana Dawley, Auditor; Beverly Malloy, Recorder and Lana Taylor, Treasurer.”
In the end, two candidates were chosen, one each from their respective parties.
White, a Republican from Brooklyn, Iowa defeated Democrat Ann Brau of rural Poweshiek County 863 to 781 along with 9 write-in votes. All numbers are preliminary until the election is canvassed at a later date.
