To Summer Theatre Camp and Beyond!

OSKALOOSA, IA — In just a few weeks, it’s time to go to Summer Theatre Camp and beyond! The George Daily Youth Theatre has a packed summer full of almost anything you can imagine – musicals, games, film, podcasts, Halloween, Dr. Seuss, wizards, Shakespeare, and more!

“We have a variety of teachers coming from all around the country to work with us this summer,” said Andy McGuire, Education Director at the George Daily Auditorium. “Campers have a lot of opportunity to work with a lot of professionals with a lot of unique skill sets. We have someone coming from Chicago who composed the music for a musical and he’s going to work with our students to compose music for an original show during the two-week production camp.”

The summer kicks off the week of June 5th with Musical Theatre camp for grades K-12. Campers will learn songs and choreography to popular songs from musicals and movies. The camp will feature Mark Swinerton, who is working on a master’s in Theatre for Youth, as a guest teacher.

This summer will have a few surprises, according to McGuire, with brand new Advanced Skills Camps. “This new camp is for kids who really want to sink into theatre and learn it at a more advanced level. It’ll be a higher standard but the experience is more akin to what happens in the actual theatre world.”

Camp runs from 9 a.m. – 4 p.m., with programming available for kindergarten through high school. At the end of each session, campers will showcase what they learned and created throughout the week for family and friends. Free, healthy lunches will be provided for all campers through the Oskaloosa Summer Lunch Program.

The summer is packed with themed camps so kids can go as many weeks as they like and have a different experience each time. Registrations are accepted up to, and on, the first day of camp.
