1972: Severe thunderstorms struck western and southwestern Iowa for the third consecutive day producing a tornado that damaged farms near Beebeetown, golf ball sized hail around Logan, and winds up to 90 mph that resulted in severe damage at Sac City. The three days of storms from September 10-12 also produced tremendous amounts of rainfall at some locations that led to significant flooding, including at Harlan where the three-day rainfall total was 15.25 inches.

1902: Unusually cold weather brought freezing temperatures across much of the northwestern half of Iowa on September 12-13 with several stations reporting their earliest freeze on record. Low temperatures on the morning of the 12th included 29 F at Carroll, Denison, Fort Dodge, Harlan, and Sibley, 28 F at Atlantic, Le Mars, and Sheldon, and 26 F at Plover.
