Suspect Remains At Large After Dangerous Chase

Albia, Iowa – Law enforcement from multiple agencies have converged on a location just north of Albia, Iowa, searching for an individual that is accused of stealing a truck from Osceola, Iowa.

The Iowa State Patrol says that they spotted the truck in Pella. While waiting for a second car to assist, the suspect allegedly took off from law enforcement.

The Iowa State Patrol (ISP) says the suspect then took to gravel roads through Mahaska County and through the town of Olivet, where a Iowa State Patrol unit was damaged. The suspect then headed west on Highway 92. The chase then turned east of Tracy down old Highway 92. The suspect then emerged on Galeston Avenue and went south across the Eveland Bridge, where the ISP says the subject swerved at numerous officers.

The suspect is said to have continued south on Galeston. After entering Monroe County, the suspect headed south on Highway 137 and drove onto gravel roads, before turning onto Highway 5, just north of Albia near the fairgrounds. An Albia Police squad car was then struck and the suspect took off on foot.

As of 5 pm, Wednesday, the suspect remained at large.

***Update 9:00 pm – Radio traffic indicates that the suspect has been taken into custody by the Iowa State Patrol, just north of the initial search area. A message from the Monroe County Sheriff’s Office confirmed the arrest. “The suspect we were looking for has been found! We are very grateful for all of the help and support this community gave today.”

The whole incident continues to be documented, and multiple agencies from law enforcement and fire departments have responded to calls for help.
