Supervisors Meeting Once Again Short

Oskaloosa, Iowa – The Mahaska County Board of Supervisors completed their meeting in under 15 minutes on Monday.

The past few months have seen little on the supervisors agenda, and Monday was no different.

The first order of the day was a public hearing on Ordinance #53, which relates to recreational use of ATV’s and off-road vehicles in Mahaska County.

No one was on hand to speak during the public hearing, and the board approved the first reading of the ordinance 3-0.

Mahaska County Conservation Director Dave Sedivec spoke to the board about projects and programs underway with the conservation department.

Sedivec highlighted the Youth Outdoor Field day the department hosted at Russell Wildlife Area a few weeks ago. “We’ve had a bigger crowd then we’ve had the past few years,” said Sedivec.

The Eveland Access Campground will be closing after October 31st for the season, and Mahaska County Conservation is hosting a trick or treat bash on October 22nd, which will feature a trick-or-treating event, as well as best decorated camping site.

Anna Bruen, from Pathfinders RCD recently took over that position, and she took the opportunity on Monday to introduce herself to the board, and present updates about projects they have underway in Mahaska County. Many of those projects involve mine reclamation with several underway currently within the county.

Evan De Val with ISG presented the board with inspection reports for the Dakota Access Pipeline that have been completed on behalf of Mahaska County.

The next Supervisors meeting will be the first Monday in November at 9 am.
