Supervisors Enter Agreement With Keokuk County For Engineer Services
Oskaloosa, Iowa – The Mahaska County Board of Supervisors met in regular session on Monday morning, August 19th, 2019.
Deann DeGroot, Director of Mahaska County Agriculture & Rural Development (MCARD), shared some of the recent developments she has taken part of with the Mahaska County Board of Supervisors.
Included in those was attendance with Mahaska County Supervisor Steve Parker to Indian Hills Center on the Cargill campus to meet with visitors from around the world.
Also continuing the work to look at the housing needs in the county, and building a database of properties that may potentially benefit from future programs.
DeGroot said she’s been working with local schools to write a grant to help area students be future-ready.
The Board then heard from Dave Sedivec, Mahaska County Conservation Director, who spoke about upcoming ISAC meetings. Also discussed was attending meetings to coordinate dam regulations to send to the legislature. “It makes sense to have everybody on the same piece of paper.”
Sedivec also reported that campground usage has been increasing.
More displays continue to be installed at the new Environmental Learning Center.
Youth Outdoor Field Day is scheduled for September 28th, 2019, and will once again be hosted out at Russell Wildlife north of Oskaloosa.
Mahaska County Supervisors Chair Mark Groenendyk said the Board is working on “a different county engineer.”
Groenendyk said the Monroe County engineer who has assisted the county since Mahaska County Engineer Dave Shanahan resigned in November of last year, did a great job.
The County has opened up the position and has received a few applicants at this point.
The 28E agreement with Monroe County was then terminated, and Supervisor Steve Parker recommended a thank-you note to the County for their assistance. “He did a nice job.”
The Board then made the motion to enter into a 28E agreement with Keokuk County for sharing of their county engineer services.
The Board then approved replacing an air conditioner unit for the Mahaska County Sheriff’s Office Civil Division. The Board accepted the replacement cost of $7300 for the unit.
The next scheduled meeting of the Mahaska County Board of Supervisors is September 2nd, 2019 at 9 am in the 3rd-floor conference room.
