Stewart Shows Perimeter Proficiency in Loss to Ravens
Oskaloosa–Ally Stewart (Jr., Victoria, Australia, Physical Education) knocked down six three-pointers, but unfortunately the Statesmen women’s basketball team could not overcome a slow start in a 71-49 Heart of America Athletic Conference loss to Benedictine Saturday.
WPU (2-20, 2-9 Heart), which was outshot 45.2%-31.6% and outrebounded 44-29, fell behind 35-17 by intermission and was unable to make up the difference.
Behind Stewart’s 6-for-10 effort, the hosts were a collective 11-for-27 from behind the arc (40.7%). The Ravens responded, though, by going 8-for-20 (40.0%).
The game was really determined on the boards as BC (15-6, 7-4 Heart) turned a 16-10 offensive rebounding edge into a 19-4 margin in second-chance points.
Stewart finished with 18 points to lead the navy and gold. Amanee Clark (So., Waterloo, Iowa, Human Services) and Zantasia White (Jr., Lubbock, Texas, Secondary Education) fell just shy of double digits with nine points each, while Morgan Terry (Jr., Cornersville, Tenn., Biology) contributed six. Clark also dished out a squad-best six assists.
Journie Augmon (Jr., Las Vegas, Nev., Human Services) was William Penn’s top rebounder with seven.
Next Up: William Penn travels to Peru, Neb., next Wednesday to face Peru State in Heart action at 5:30 p.m.
