Statesmen Wrap Up Fall at National Preview
Silvis, Ill.–The William Penn men’s golf team discovered there is a little more room for improvement as it took on numerous top teams from around the country at the season-ending NAIA Preview Monday and Tuesday.
In an event that featured nine top-25 teams, including the NAIA’s top four programs, the Statesmen placed 18th out of 24 squads with a two-day score of 641 (326-315) at the par-72 TPC Deere Run Golf Course. #1 Coastal Georgia (302-293) won the team crown by holding off #3 Oklahoma City by three strokes, 595-598.
Anthony Marchesani of Oklahoma City won the medalist honor at one-over 143 (73-70).
After posting a 79 on Monday, Frederik Lundsgaard (So., Jebjerg, Denmark, History/Government) rallied for a strong 73 on Tuesday to tie for 19th at 152. The 73 tied for the ninth-lowest round of the day in the 120-player field.
Four of the five team members improved from the first round to the second with three making up at least six strokes. Brandon Dizon (Jr., San Leandro, Calif., Sociology) was next for the navy and gold, tying for 65th at 161 (81-80), while Spencer Skipper (Sr., Coeur d’Alene, Idaho, Business Management) tied for 93rd at 166 (86-80).
Justin Bothma (Sr., Boksburg, South Africa, Business Management), in 104th at 170 (80-90), and Joshua Snyman (Fr., Johannesburg, South Africa, Business Management), in a tie for 105th at 171 (89-82), rounded out the Statesmen efforts.
