Statesmen Take Care of CMU

Oskaloosa–Courtesy of seven victories, including four by fall, the William Penn men’s wrestling team dispatched Central Methodist 34-16 in a Heart of America Athletic Conference dual meet Thursday.

WPU (8-3, 3-2 Heart), which was looking to rebound after a league loss just two nights earlier, kept the Eagles (0-5, 0-5 Heart) winless by walking away with bonus-point victories.

In a matchup of the Heart’s fifth and sixth-ranked grapplers at 125 pounds, Nadhelo Charles-Pierre (Sr., Miramar, Fla., Sports Management), who is fifth, held off Jesus Plasencia 10-9. The highlight of his triumph was a four-point move in the second period.

Kirkland Crocker (Sr., Tampa, Fla.) then won a defensive battle at 133 pounds, dropping Brett Parson 3-1.

The visitors knotted the score with a fall at 141 pounds, but 149-pounder Joe Eads (Jr., Morrison, Ill., Biology) responded with a pin of his own against Dylan Washburn in 2:24.

That started a run of five-straight wins by the navy and gold, including a pin by 157-pounder Cameron Hargrove (Fr., Bolingbrook, Ill., Undecided) versus Charles Veliz in a time of 3:50.

Makail Stanley (Fr., Orena, Ill., Biology) controlled his bout against Trenton LeGrotte to the tune of a 10-1 major decision at 165 pounds, while 174-pounder Steven Skewes (Fr., Duchesne, Utah, Exercise Science) and 184-pounder Jason Beebe (Jr., Oskaloosa, Iowa, Business Management) both bulldozed their competition.

Skewes pinned Luke Enright in just 35 seconds, while Beebe earned a mat slap against Devin York in 53 seconds.

CMU closed out the evening with wins at 197 and 285 pounds.
