Oskaloosa–The William Penn bowling teams are continuing their tradition of excellent play and are on the verge of once again battling for a trip to nationals.
The men’s squad is currently 17th in collegebowling.com’s power ranking, while the women are 35th nationally. A total of 178 men’s teams are included in the ranking, while there are 146 women’s teams in the list.
The NAIA’s coaches’ poll was also released earlier this week and the Statesmen men are fifth with 213 points. Webber International (Fla.) tops the poll with 314 points and 11 first-place votes. Robert Morris (Ill.) (two first-place votes), Calumet-St. Joseph (Ind.) (three first-place votes), and Midland (Neb.) round out the top five.
WPU is led by six players who average over 200 pins per game, headlined by Quincy Bruce (Sr., Cedar Rapids, Iowa, General Accounting) and his 207.9 clip.
The navy and gold women are currently in the receiving votes section of the NAIA rating, while Robert Morris (Ill.) is first with 299 points and 10 first-place votes. Pikeville (Ky.) (three first-place votes), St. Ambrose (three first-place votes), St. Francis (Ill.), and Midland (Neb.) wrap up the rest of the top five.
