Oskaloosa–Even with its top player in a night class, the William Penn men’s basketball team easily defeated Faith Baptist Bible 116-60 Tuesday night.

The #19-ranked Statesmen (3-0) remained perfect with a non-stop effort that included a 55.3%-32.3% edge in shooting. The hosts forced 27 turnovers and also outrebounded the Eagles (0-2) 47-38.

Brandon Beasley (Sr., Indianapolis, Ind., Physical Education) was in the books, but that did little to hold up the hosts. William Penn trailed once at 6-5, but a 13-0 run pushed the advantage to double digits, where it stood the remainder of the night.

An extremely-balanced attack showed eight players reach double figures, led by Keith Steffeck (Sr., Marion, Iowa, Physical Education) with 18 points off the bench. Taylor Stoutner (Sr., Keota, Iowa, Physical Education) added 16 points, including four three-pointers. The navy and gold knocked down 13 of their 30 shots from beyond the arc.

Arman Rasul (Sr., Chicago, Ill., Sociology) produced 15 points, while Ross Howe (Jr., State Center, Iowa, Undecided) and Lamonte Jenkins (Fr., Lake Charles, La., Business Management) each managed 13 points.

Davis Spielbauer (Sr., Wapello, Iowa Physical Education), with 12 points, and Kevin Fay (Jr., Hennepin, Ill., Education), with 11 points, joined the double-digit club as well.

Blake Walker (Jr., Rose Garden, Ga., Physical Education) and James Devlin (Sr., Tampa, Fla., Sociology) both nearly missed the mark, with nine and seven points, respectively. Devlin was only available in the second half as he also had a night class to attend. Walker assisted on eight baskets and Fay had another six assists. Jenkins and Steffeck both blocked two shots, while Steffeck stole three passes in the win.

The home squad was solid at the line with a 9-of-12 performance.
