Statesmen in Top Ten at Indiana Top-Tier Tourney
South Bend, Ind.–The William Penn men’s bowling team finally placed out of the top five, but another great top-ten finish at the Blue and Gold Classic over the weekend keeps the program as one of the nation’s best.
The Statesmen placed eighth out of 66 teams with 9,322 pins in nine regular games. Lindenwood (Mo.) narrowly nipped Saginaw Valley State (Mich.) by just four pins for the team title with a 10,005-10,001 pin edge.
Aaron Lorincz of Saginaw Valley State was the top individual finisher with a 238.4 average (2,146 pins).
Drew Balta (So., Walford, Cedar Rapids Prairie HS) topped the navy and gold by placing 14th with a 220.0 average (1,980 pins).
Sean Rangel (Jr., Omaha, Neb., Bellevue East HS) was also in the top 20 (16th) by averaging 219.3 pins.
Nick Atkinson (Sr., Frostburg, Md., Vincennes CC) was then next with a 215.8 average, while Cameron Foster (So., West Jordan, Utah, West Jordan HS) had a 207.2 clip. Foster destroyed his own single-game school record (289) by scoring 297 in his final game.
The top foursome all started nine games of the event.
Alex Hoskins (Fr., Pocatello, Idaho, Century HS), Piet Schaeffer (So., Livingston, Scotland, The James Young HS), and Conan Mackey (Fr., Bray, Ireland, St. Kilian’s School) shared the final nine games for William Penn.
Hoskins posted a 174.8 mark in four games, while Schaeffer managed to knock down 174.7 pins in three games. Mackey averaged 169.0 pins in two games.
