Statesmen Fall to #20 in First Regular Season Poll
Oskaloosa–Despite splitting a pair of games against top-ten teams, the William Penn football team lost a few spots as the NAIA released its first top-25 poll Monday.
The Statesmen (1-1) garnered 86 points to slip four spots from their preseason position to #20. William Penn defeated then-#9 Bethel (Tenn.) in its opener, but most recently fell to then-#5 St. Francis (Ind.). Unfortunately, Bethel has proven to not be that strong as it no longer even receives votes, while St. Francis has jumped three slots to second in the nation.
Preseason #1 Morningside has held onto the top spot with 314 points and all 14 first-place votes. USF is second, while Cumberlands (Ky.), Carroll (Mont.), and fellow Midwest League foe Saint Xavier (Ill.) round out the top five.
The MWL is also represented by #7 St. Ambrose and #9 Grand View.
The navy and gold travel to Kirksville, Mo. Saturday to face NCAA Division II Truman at 7 p.m.
