This will be the second year with IMCA Racing at the speedway. Last year the car count was up and they are looking forward to another exciting season. On June 12th, the speedway will have Fan Appreciation Night. On this night, the fans will be able to come sit in the grandstand and watch the races for Free. Yes, we said Free. So you will want to come early to get a seat! Several sponsors have joined the bandwagon to help promote the speedway throughout the season. Make sure to go to the speedway web site at www.oskyspeedway.com for the racing schedule and a list of the 2013 sponsors.
The Southern Iowa Fair will be held July 15 – 20. The board is working on the schedule at this time. Events that are planned are the King/Queen Pageant on Monday night. Also on Monday night will be a concert by Jason Brown. Tuesday and Wednesday will be IMCA Racing with the Hawkeye Dirt Special with the IMCA Late Models. Also racing that night will be the Hobby Stocks and Stock Cars. Wednesday will be our Southern Iowa Fair Race with Modifieds, Sport Mods, Hobby Stock, Stock Cars, and Compacts. Thursday will the Figure 8 Races. This will be the second year for the Figure 8 races. It drew a big crowd with lots of excitement.
Friday and Saturday night will be two great nights of great music. Friday night’s concert will be Head East – Midwest Legendary Classic Rock Band. Head East is currently a 5-piece band consisting of Roger Boyd (keyboards & vocals), Greg Manahan (bass, lead guitar & vocals), Glen Bridger (lead guitar & vocals), Eddy Jones (drums & vocals), and Darren Walker (lead vocals & bass). The new members superb musicianship and versatility along with their strong vocal and song writing abilities, resulted in the reinstatement of some classic Head East songs to the set list along with new material and a few new covers of classic rock favorites, making for an exciting new live show. Our Saturday night concert will feature Edge Of Forever – ATribute To Lynyrd Skynyrd.
Raging from the Midwestern region of the United States, Edge Of Forever is truly one the finest Lynyrd Skynyrd tribute acts in the world. Each member brings decades of experience to the table and are seasoned pros. Their pile-driving stage show is amazing and speaks for itself. This 9 piece band amazingly sounds and looks like the real Lynyrd Skynyrd and the musicians have worked extremely diligently to reproduce the music to a T.
Edge Of Forever is on top of their game and the real Lynyrd Skynyrd would’ve been proud of the justice these guys and gals do with their music.
Sunday night the fairgrounds will be hosting the Gospel Concert and Sunday and Mondayt will be Harness Races. Returning this year will be Laser Alley, Quilt Show, Antique Tractor Display and Carnival. Of course the fair wouldn’t be complete without all the FFA and 4-H Exhibits, Kids Contest, and Great Food.
New attraction this year will be The Great Little Bear Show. Working for the simple but rewarding cost of a marshmallow per trick, you will see black bears perform to the delight of their audiences. The Great Little Bear show is led by trainer and owner Jeanette Rix of Middletown, NY. The bears perform such tricks as dancing with their trainer, slipping down a slide, standing and spinning on a barrel and various other performances that are based on hamming it up for the audience. They have wonderful personalities. They each have their own little world and approach to things, which is what makes the show unique. This will be a great show for the young and old.
The Fairboard is very excited about the 2013 season. Make sure to check out the website at www.southerniowafair.com for all events!
