Lots of interest in making wax snowflakes at the Oskaloosa Public Library.

Oskaloosa, Iowa – Christmas time is often craft time for many people. The Oskaloosa Public Library in conjunction with FACE of Mahaska County and the Oskaloosa Art Center and Studios gave those with an interest the opportunity to make wax snowflakes.

Briana Bartlett is an art teacher at OES and a member of FACE. She is also an integral part of the new Oskaloosa Art Center and Studios at the mall on the east side of Oskaloosa, next to Dollar General.

Bartlett was teaching how to make wax crayon snowflakes. Crayons were shaved to give off flakes. Those flakes were landing on wax paper. An iron was then used to melt the wax. Much of the process is similar to that of the paper snowflakes that are popular scissor crafts. “It’s a little bit trickier to cut than regular paper,” said Bartlett.

Bartlett and FACE will be back to the library once again on Thursday evening at 5:30 to make even more snowflakes.

Make It & Take It will happen tonight, Monday evening. Create handmade holiday greeting cards with Library Director William. The event starts at 5:30pm at the Oskaloosa Library.
