Smith Earns Second-Team All-America Award from NAIA
Oskaloosa–Laila Smith (So., Olympia, Wash., Elementary Education) collected one final accolade for her outstanding 2025 campaign as the NAIA announced its All-America softball teams Tuesday.
Smith was one of 20 individuals named to the Second Team, while 20 players garnered First-Team recognition and 23 picked up Honorable-Mention status.
Smith is a first-time recipient, while William Penn has now garnered 25 All-America honors in its history (first since 2022).
The sophomore wrapped up her spring by leading the navy and gold with a .382 batting average (55-for-144). She tallied 13 home runs, 45 RBIs, and 33 runs scored–all team highs, while also notching 10 doubles. She recorded a .722 slugging percentage and a .480 on-base mark that included 27 walks. The sophomore stole a trio of bases as well.
Selected as a catcher, Smith had 14 multi-hit games (high of four on three occasions) and had a nine-game hitting streak at one point.
Ayla Davies of Southern Oregon was named the NAIA Pitcher of the Year, while Analise Rayburn (Oklahoma City) was picked as NAIA Player of the Year.
