Sheryl Davis, age 81, of Oskaloosa, Iowa passed away on Tuesday, January 23, 2024, at the Mahaska Hospice Serenity House. She was born on February 8, 1942, in Davis County, Iowa, the daughter of Rayburn and Lucile (Pilcher) Pence.

She attended Ottumwa High School and graduated with the Class of 1960. A few years later she furthered her education at Indian Hills Community College.

She was united in marriage to Billie Fenton. To this union, two children were born, Becky and Rayburn. After Billie’s passing, she married Ken Davis, on March 7, 1993, in Mahaska County.

Sheryl worked in housekeeping at the University of Iowa and later went to work as a D.A.V. coordinator at the VA Hospital in Iowa City. She ventured into sales where she sold Kirby vacuums and cookware as an independent distributor. However, her most cherished role was being a mom to her children and stepchildren.

She was actively involved in supporting veterans. She was a lifetime member of the V.F.W. Auxiliary where she held several offices and was president for 12 years. Sheryl was affectionately known as the “Pie Maker” which was fitting for the pies she was well known for. She was also a talented crafter, which was displayed in the flower arrangements she would make for Memorial Day. She enjoyed sharing her talent for flower arranging and recipes with the younger generations. Sheryl loved to care for the many plants around her home, playing Yahtzee and being with family.

She is survived by her husband, Ken Davis, of Oskaloosa, her two children, Becky (Tom) Johnson of Oskaloosa, and Rayburn (Jo) Fenton of Joplin, MO., her stepchildren, Jim (Doralee) Davis of Williamsburg, Kenneth Robert Davis Jr of Kansas City, MO, Tanya (Jose) Alvarado of Cedar Rapids, Shawn Davis of Washington, IA. Five grandchildren, Heather Elmore, Mathew (Betsy) Johnson, Cal, Codi, and Croy, and several step-grandchildren, 6 great-grandchildren, Nolan Elmore, Holly, Kaden, Jacob, Carlee, and Kyle, one brother-in-law, Dick Dunlavy of Mission, TX and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her first husband, Billie, her parents, a sister Donna Dunlavy, 2 brothers, Doran pence and Dennis Pence, and two sisters- in -law, Joyce Pence and Debbie Pence.

A grave side service and burial will take place Saturday, January 27, 2024, at 10:30a.m. at Beacon Cemetery in Beacon. Visitation will be held on Saturday from 9:00am until 10:30 a.m. at Bates Funeral Chapel. A procession will form at 10:30a.m. at Bates Funeral Chapel to go out to the cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to the V.F.W. or the MPH Hospice Serenity House. The Bates Funeral Chapel is in charge of the arrangements.
