Samuel Rodman Spratt, 89, of Oskaloosa, passed away Tuesday, December 1, 2020, at the Mahaska Health Partnership in Oskaloosa. He was born October 1, 1932, in Mahaska County the son of Roy and Ethel (Gott) Spratt.

Samuel attended Lincoln Elementary School in Oskaloosa until the 8th grade.

Samuel began working at the Oskaloosa Produce as a young man until turning 18 and going to work for Iowa Power. He was injured while working for Iowa Power and was forced into early retirement.

On February 11, 1950 Samuel was united in marriage to Peggy Wymore in Oskaloosa. To this union 3 children were born, Samuel Jr., Sally and Mary. Together, Samuel and Peggy shared over 50 years of marriage until Peggy’s passing on April 16, 2004.

He enjoyed fishing, hunting and learning about history. Samuel was a huge Chicago Cubs fan and he had a special love for his dogs. Above all else he enjoyed spending time with his family.

Those left to cherish his memory are his two daughters, Sally Evans and Mary Spratt, both of Oskaloosa; 3 grandchildren: Bob Evans, Scott Evans, and Wendy Spratt; 9 great grandchildren; 7 great-great grandchildren; and a special daughter-in-law, Patricia Spratt-Draughn.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Roy and Ethel Spratt; his wife, Peggy Spratt; a son, Samuel Spratt Jr; a granddaughter, Stacie Spratt; a grandson, Billy Spratt; 2 brothers, Willis and Tom Spratt; 2 sisters, Audrey Waters and Mary McDonald; and a son-in-law, Robert Evans.

As was Sam’s wish, his body will be cremated and a graveside service will be held at a later date. The Bates Funeral Chapel is in charge of arrangements.
