Salvation Army of Mahaska County Set To Kick Off Bell Ringing
OSKALOOSA – The Salvation Army of Mahaska County is pleased to announce their kick-off of the Red Kettle campaign bell-ringing season begins this Saturday.
The kick-off rally will begin with a coffee time meeting to begin the season’s activities on Saturday, November 17th, at 10 a.m. at the VFW Post on Highway 23 South. The honorary chairman and speaker will be the newly elected state senator and county board of supervisors member, Ken Rozenboom. All past bell-ringers, those wishing to donate their time to ring, and anyone else interested in knowing more about the Salvation Army are invited to attend.
Last year, more than $41,415.00 was raised and used in the county and community to help those in need. This included 242 assists serving over 652 people including 209 women, 145 men, and 298 children. Several fire victims and their families were also helped by the generosity of funds from our area residents. Help was given for rent, $7,445.19; electric and gas utilities, $10,485.76; water assists, $5,183.15; gas for medical appointments out of town and assisting transients, $748.25: and miscellaneous items including three medically necessary air conditioners, bus tickets, glasses, medical appointments, prescriptions, clothing and transient motel rooms for $1,706.44. An additional $19,000.00 was used for Special Projects including food cards, 481 school backpacks and supplies, bike lights, diapers and baby items for new parents, safety seats and mattresses for children and books for preschool children to read at home.
The goal for this year is $50,000.00 to help serve more Mahaska county residents. All of the Salvation Army services conducted to meet needs in Mahaska County are done by volunteers,
