Ruth M. Towns, age 97, of Oskaloosa, passed away on April 26, 2020 at the MHP Serenity Hospice House. She was born on Monday, July 31, 1922 in Cedar, Iowa, the daughter of Clarence and Florence (Rockwell) Nash.

Ruth grew up and attended the Cedar High School graduating with the Class of 1940. During her high school years Ruth was a standout basketball player.

On June 7, 1941 she was united in marriage to Raymond Towns in Lancaster, Missouri. To this union, three children were born, Connie, Jacque and Robert. Together Ruth and Raymond shared over 60 years of marriage together until Ray’s passing in December, 2003.

Ruth was a cook, helping serve hot lunch at Fremont Schools for several years. She was well known for her homemade cinnamon rolls. After semi-retiring, she and Raymond moved to Cedar Rapids to manage an apartment complex for 12 years. They later returned to Oskaloosa in 1985.

Ruth was a member of the Fremont United Methodist Church. She enjoyed cooking, baking, walking and exercising in her water aerobics class with her sister Reba. She also enjoyed reading and listening to audiobooks. Above all else, Ruth enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Her family includes her children: Connie (& Arvin) Bandstra of Pella, Jacque McCall of Austin, TX and Robert (& Katherine) Towns of Knoxville, TN; her grandchildren: Deanna Garbison of Noblesville, IN, Deb (& Erin Callahan) Garbison of Loretto, MN. and Chad (& Jennifer) McCall of Austin, TX; her great grandchildren: Amanda Bulcao, Lucas Bulcao, Carlie McCall, and Cade McCall; her step-grandson, Russ (& Lori) Bandstra; her great step-grandchildren, Abbott Callahan and Cecelia Callahan; a sister, Retha Ray; 3 step-great grandchildren; 4 step- great-great children; and several nieces and nephews.

Ruth was preceded in death by her husband, Raymond; her parents; a brother-in-infancy; two twin sisters-in-infancy; her sisters, Roberta (& Floyd) Richardson and Reba (& Wayne) McWilliams; and a brother, Clarence (& Jeanne) Nash; a brother-in-law, Don Ray; a sister-in-law, Dorothy (& Jack) Bridges; and a nephew, Steve DeWild.

As was her wish, her body has been cremated and the family will hold a celebration of life at a later date. The Bates Funeral Chapel is in charge of arrangements.
