Rusty L. Grubbs, 40, of Rose Hill, died suddenly at his home on Thursday, January 19, 2017. He was born June 9, 1976, in Knoxville, Iowa, the son of Shirley and Karen Pennington Grubbs.

Rusty attended school in Oskaloosa. Following school, he worked various places in Oskaloosa.

On April 8, 1995, he was united in marriage to Shellene Boender at the Good News Chapel in Oskaloosa.

Rusty was an arborist he owned and operated Grubbs Tree Service in Oskaloosa. He sold the business in 2005 due to ill health.

Rusty enjoyed being outdoors, he loved fishing, hunting, and working in the yard. He also enjoyed repairing lawn mowers.

Rusty was an honorary member of FFA. He and Shelly volunteered many hours to the program, while their boys were in school. Rusty was very kind and generous, he was always looking to help others, and put their needs in front of his.

His family includes his wife of over 21 years, Shellene “Shelly” Grubbs of Rose Hill; two sons, Alex Grubbs and Luke Grubbs, both of Rose Hill; his mother, Karen Grubbs of Knoxville; his father and mother in law, Stanley & Lila Boender of Oskaloosa; two brothers, John (& Tracy) Wagner of North Carolina and David Wagner of Kansas City; a sister, Karen (& Bud) Johnson of Eddyville; brothers and sisters in law, Justin and Michelle Boender, Scott and Crystal Boender and Jim and Sara Boender; very close friends, Kim Bishop of Ottumwa; Pat and Evie Franje and Dale Visser; and a host of extended family in, California, Hawaii, Alaska, and Iowa.

Rusty was preceded in death by his father, Donald Glass; his adoptive father, Shirley Grubbs; a stillborn child; and his brother, Robert Musgrove.

Funeral services will be held Wednesday, January 25, 2017, at 10:30 a.m. in the Bates Funeral Chapel in Oskaloosa with Pastor Alvern Boetsma officiating.
As was Rusty’s wish his body will be cremated following the funeral ceremony. The Bates Funeral Chapel is in charge of the arrangements.
Visitation will begin Tuesday after 10 a.m. in the Bates Funeral Chapel and the family will be at the funeral chapel on Tuesday evening from 5-7 to greet friends and relatives.
Memorials may be made to the family.
