Robert LaVerne Norris, 59, of Concord, North Carolina and formerly of Fremont, Iowa entered into eternal rest on Thursday, March 8, 2012 at Northeast Medical Center in Concord. He was born September 6, 1952 in Oskaloosa the son of Lee and Elnora Norris. Robert Married Roxanne Sieren in July of 1972 and they raised two children, Angela and Chad. He graduated from Fremont Community School in 1970 and attended Iowa State University for two years. He worked a short time with Binns and Stevens in Oskaloosa before returning home to farm with his parents. Robert enjoyed raising and showing hogs and farming near Fremont with his father. As a youth, he was active in the Cedar Livestock 4-H Club for eight years. He later served as a leader for the 4-H club and was a member of the Fremont Lions Club. In 1994 he moved to Concord, NC to join 600 Racing and later was a parts man for both Penske Racing and Red Bull Racing in Mooresville, NC. In 1998 he was united in marriage to Alishia McRorie. Robert welcomed the opportunity to share with his family and friends all that he knew about the racing industry, including race track tours, museums and shop visits in and around Charlotte and Concord. Recently he was employed for Showalter Construction. During this time he was diagnosed with cancer and succumbed to the disease after a few months of treatment. He was ever so grateful to his wife and fellow workers for helping make it possible for him to remain in his own home. Robert was a member of the Hickory Grove Baptist Church in Concord, where he was very determined to attend both Sunday and Wednesday night services even when he became quite ill. He was firm believer in the mission work of his church. Robert’s family includes his wife: Alishia Norris of NC; his daughter: Angela (& Rick) Silliman of Fremont, IA; his son: Chad Norris of Concord, NC; a granddaughter: Kylee Silliman of Fremont; his mother: Elnora Norris of Fremont; two sisters: Lee Ann (& Ron) Failyer of Ottumwa and Judi (& Bob) Eilertson of Clive; a stepdaughter: Elizabeth (& Keith) Babb; a stepson: Daniel Martin; seven step grandchildren; several nieces, nephews, cousins and many dear friends. Robert was preceded in death by his father; his paternal grandparents: John and Hazel Norris and his maternal grandparents: Alva and Lucy Steele. A memorial service was held March 9, 2012 at the Hickory Grove Baptist Church in North Carolina. Funeral services in Iowa will be held Thursday, March 15, 2012 at 10:30 A.M. at the Fremont Funeral Chapel in Fremont with Reverend Bill Hornback officiating. Burial will be in the Cedar Township Memorial Cemetery in Fremont. Visitation will begin Wednesday after 1 P.M. at the Fremont Funeral Chapel with the family present at the funeral chapel Wednesday from 5 – 7 P.M. to greet friends and relatives. Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society or Hospice Serenity House in Oskaloosa.
