Rex Harold Johnson was born November 29, 1922 in Packwood, Iowa, to Adolph and Marie Rebecca Johannah Miller. He graduated from Farson High School in 1940. Rex was united in marriage to Dorothy Clingman June 3, 1944. He farmed his entire life in the Hedrick/Farson area until his retirement to Fremont in 1989. His interests included being an active member of the Wapello Chiefs Barbershop Chorus, Wapello Co. 4-H program as a leader for many years, and he sold Farmers Hybrid Purebred Boars and seed corn. Together he and Dorothy camped at the Iowa State Fair for 56 years and he was a ticket taker and gate supervisor there for over 40 years. Rex was an active member of the St. Paul Lutheran Church in Hedrick for many years and was very involved with the Luther League program. Following retirement, he spent many hours on woodworking projects in “Grandpa’s Tinker Shop”. He operated “Grandma’s Snack Shack” at Sinnif Auction with his wife and daughter for 15 years, and was known there for his delicious homemade pies and cakes and for having quite a repoir with the customers!Rex was an active member of the Wapello Co. Pork Producers and was named Master Pork Producer. His recent accomplishment was authoring his personal memoirs “Harvest of Memories” and numerous poems. Rex is survived by his wife Dorothy, of Ottumwa, his children; Judy Kilmer,of Ottumwa, Lyle (Lorene) Johnson,of Cheyenne, WY., Dennis (Jeanine) Johnson, Allegan, MI., Diane Hall,Arvada, CO., and Karen (Ivan ) Roquet, of Hedrick. Grandchildren; Mindy (JD) Sinnif, Gary Kilmer, Tom (Melissa) Pedretti, Tony (Juli) Johnson, Matthew (Valerie) Johnson, Michelle Laintz, Elizabeth (Dave) Kaminski, Bradley (Carrie) Johnson, Jennifer (Dan) Cook, Tim Schwartz, Charity (Clayton) Beaman, Michael Schwartz, Sabrina (Bub) Knapp, and Eric (Katie) Roquet. Three step-grandchildren, Angie (Troy) Smith, Shelley Hall, Jessi (Justin) Wells, twenty three great-grandchildren, four step great-grandchildren, and one great-great grandchild. A sister; Lucille Lowenberg, and two brothers; Loren (Theoris) Johnson and Kenneth (Genivieve) Johnson, and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; Adolph and Marie Johnson, and two sisters; Helen Campbell and Ruth Cobler.
