Oskaloosa. Reed Lindahl, 84, of Oskaloosa, died Monday, March 28, 2011, at the Mahaska Hospital in Oskaloosa. For details regarding Reed’s illness, visit www.caringbridge.org/visit/reedlindahl. He was born September, 28, 1926, at Sparta, Wisconsin, the son of Gustave and Mabel Zietlow Lindahl. He graduated from the Wilton High School in Wilton, Wisconsin with the class of 1945; and furthered his education at Taylor University in Indiana. On August 25, 1950, he was united in marriage to Mary Beth Robinson at Evanston, Illinois. Following their marriage, Reed entered the United States Army and served in Korea for 13 months and upon discharge from the Army in 1952 returned to Evanston. Early on, he worked for Clayton Mark as a machinist. They later moved to Streamwood, Illinois where Reed worked as a machinist at Bachi Inc. for many years. In 1977 they moved to Oskaloosa and he worked for Clow Valve, and later Oskaloosa Engineering. In 1980, he went to work for Vennard College as a maintenance man, retiring from there in 1991. He enjoyed woodworking, collecting toy tractors and being on the computer. While he worked at the college he truly enjoyed interacting with the students. Reed was a member of the First Church of the Nazarene in Oskaloosa.
His family includes his wife of over 60 years, Mary Beth Lindahl of Oskaloosa; three children: Sherri (& Howard) Ledford of Winterville, Georgia, Kevin (& Barb) Lindahl of Poplar Grove, Illinois, and Kim (& Jim) Anderson of Oskaloosa; eight grandchildren; two great grandchildren; two brothers: LeRoy Lindahl of Bolivia, South America, and Tom (& LeeAnn) Lindahl of Platteville, Wisconsin; two sisters: Marlys (& Bill) Castle and Janet Lindahl all of Savannah, Missouri; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Funeral services for Reed Lindahl will be held Friday, April 1, 2011, at 11 a.m. in the Bates Funeral Chapel in Oskaloosa. Burial will be in the Forest Cemetery in Oskaloosa. Graveside Military Rites will be given by members of the Oskaloosa American Legion, V.F.W. and D.A.V. The Bates Funeral Chapel is in charge of the arrangements. Visitation will begin Thursday after 11 a.m. in the Bates Funeral Chapel and the family will be at the funeral chapel from 6-8 Thursday evening to greet friends and relatives. Memorials may be made to the Reed Lindahl Memorial Fund.
