Raymond William Welch, 41, of Oskaloosa died Monday, October 24, 2022. He was born November 5, 1980, in Oskaloosa, the son of Curt and Sandra Cunningham Welch.

Ray graduated from Oskaloosa High School with the class of 1999.

On June 4, 2005, Ray married his high school sweetheart Tara Beason at the McNeil Stone Mansion in Oskaloosa.

The majority of Ray’s career was spent building pole buildings for various companies. He took pride in his buildings and enjoyed working outdoors. Currently he had been working at Clow Valve in Oskaloosa. He was a hard worker and gave 100 percent wherever he was working.

Ray loved spending time with his kids watching his son Merick grow and explore the world around him. His son Koy is active in baseball and basketball and Ray always looked forward to teaching and watching him play. He loved to golf and cheer for the Iowa Hawkeyes and the Las Vegas Raiders. He loved his boys more than anything and always embraced the differences that Autism brought into his and Tara’s lives.

His family includes his wife Tara Welch of Oskaloosa; two sons, Merick Raymond Welch and Koy William Welch, both of Oskaloosa; his mother and step father, Sandra (& Scott) Hildebrand of Oskaloosa; his father and step mother, Curt (& Sharon) Welch of Pella; his grandmother, Veralea Buchanan; a sister and her husband, Amy (& Chris) McDougall of Oskaloosa; a brother, Nathan (& Harmony) Deppe of Oskaloosa; step siblings: Nikole Trader, Matt Hildebrand, and Crystal Cockrell; a sister in law and her husband, Terri (& Aaron) Menefee; seven nieces and nephews: Odessa, Anniston, Ashlyn, Odiya, Kasie, Ethan, and one on the way; great nieces, Stella and Sophia; and his beloved pets: Vaeda, Salem, and Watson.

He was preceded in death by his grandparents: Raymond Cunningham, Lena Nora Cunningham, Evelyn Cunningham, William Welch, Marilyn Welch, and Richard Buchanan; and his mother and father-in-law, Donald and Kyong Beason.

As was Ray’s wish, his body has been cremated, a private family ceremony will take place at a later date. The Bates Funeral Chapel is in charge of the arrangements.
