Rachel C. Silvers
Oskaloosa. Rachel C. Silvers, 94, of Oskaloosa, died Thursday, August 19, 2010, at Crystal Heights Care Center in Oskaloosa. She was born April 3, 1916, at Alma, Arkansas, the daughter of Wylie and Virgie O. Plum Dickerson. On May 26, 1934, she was united in marriage to Everett Owen Silvers at Oskaloosa. Everett died September 25, 1983. Rachel worked at the old Continental Overall Factory and the former Big Smith; she retired from there after 25 years of service. She was a former member of the Moose Lodge in Oskaloosa. She enjoyed Bingo, Fishing and traveling. She also enjoyed playing cards, especially Pitch. She also looked forward to long car rides on Sunday afternoons.
Her family includes her three children: Joyce (& Wayne) McMullen of Oskaloosa, Jimmy (& Linda) Silvers of Oskaloosa and Ronald Silvers of Oskaloosa; a son in law: Clarence McKee of Oskaloosa; 11 grandchildren; 28 great grandchildren; and 9 great great grandchildren.
In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by a daughter: Gail McKee; her parents; a grandchild; a great grandchild; six brothers: Clarence, twins Lloyd and Floyd, Raymond, Ralph and Wylie Dickerson Jr.; and two sisters: Catherine Bartlow and Ruby Newendorf.
Funeral services for Rachel Silvers will be held Monday, August 23, 2010, at 10:30 a.m. in the Bates Funeral Chapel in Oskaloosa with Pastor Alvern Boetsma officiating. Burial will be in the Henness Cemetery southwest of Oskaloosa. The Bates Funeral Chapel is in charge of the arrangements. Visitation will begin Sunday morning after 11 a.m. and the family will be at the Bates Funeral Chapel on Sunday afternoon from 1—3 to greet friends and relatives.
