Pestano named conference’s wrestler of the week

PELLA — Earning a trio of victories at the Iowa Conference duals last Saturday was enough for Central College wrestler C.J. Pestano (junior, Torrance, Calif.) to be recognized as the Iowa Conference wrestler of the week.

Pestano, ranked fourth nationally, was also named the league’s male athlete of the week.

Taking on Wartburg College, the University of Dubuque and Buena Vista University, Pestano buzzed through the competition to the tune of a 3-1 decision, a 12-2 major decision and a 22-3 technical fall.

The highlight of his day was knocking off No.6 Arnulfo Olea of Wartburg in a 3-1 decision in the opening match of the day for the Dutch.

Central hosts William Penn University in a 7 p.m. dual Thursday inside P.H. Kuyper Gymnasium.
