Paul John Groenenboom, age 87 years, 8 months, and 22 days, passed away on June 30, 2023, at his home 12 miles NE of Oskaloosa on the property where he grew up, lived, and farmed his whole life.

Paul was born on October 8, 1935, in Oskaloosa to Peter and Jennie (Heslinga) Groenenboom. At age eight, his father was killed in a farm accident and left his mother to raise four boys. Paul was the youngest.

Paul began his education at the Darland Country School and graduated from Lacey School in 1953.

On October 10, 1957, he was married to Dorothy Fynaardt at Oskaloosa First CRC. They made their home on the family farm and became parents of five children.

Paul was a lifelong member of Oskaloosa First Christian Reformed Church. He served on several boards, including the North Mahaska School Board, for nine years.

He enjoyed traveling and made many trips to various countries.

He is survived by his wife, Dorothy; five children; eight grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren:

Granddaughter: Julia Groenenboom

Daughter: Karen (& Arthur) Encarnacion of Friendswood, TX
Grandchildren: Laurel, Paige, and Blake Encarnacion

He was preceded in death by his parents; and three brothers: Harlan, Carroll, and Ken Groenenboom.

A funeral service will be on Thursday, July 6, at 10:30 a.m. at the First Christian Reformed Church of Oskaloosa, with Pastor Jon Spronk officiating. Langkamp Funeral Chapel is in charge of the service.
A 10:15 a.m. family prayer service will be held in the church’s fellowship hall.
Burial will be in Forest Cemetery.
Visitation will begin at 1 p.m. on Wednesday, July 5, at First Christian Reformed Church; the family will be present to greet relatives and friends from 4–6 p.m.
Memorial contributions may be made to Mahaska Health Partnership.
