Osky Winter Open a Success Fore the YMCA
Thanks to all the business sponsors for making the 3rd annual Osky Winter Open a success. This is a great opportunity for the whole community to come out and have some fun and get a break from the winter.
“We kicked off the event with a two-person team tournament on Friday. There was tough competition between the 15 teams. Participants enjoyed lunch provided by Hy-Vee, while awards were announced.” said committee member Matt Sherlock. The tournament winners were Eric Stout and Doug Cohrt with a 92. Trevor Vos and Cody Major shot a 96, which earned 2nd place. Chris Roach and Jason Shafer rounded out the Championship flight with a 102. First Flight winners were John Sterns & Brian Snitker shooting a 118 with 2nd and 3rd going to Ryan Bandstra & Jeff Swim and Tim Veiseth & Mattt Denbergen respectively. The 2nd Flight was captured by Lyton DeGroot & Joe Torrence with the teams of Kevin Wright & Malinda Ratliff and Stacy Bandy & Mary Cooksley rounding out the flight.
“Sponsors, golfers, mall merchants, and volunteers all had wonderful comments about the event. We are very pleased with the success,” said Dawn Collins, YMCA Executive Director. The tournament is a fun part of our fundraising campaign. We raise more than $17,000 from the event with proceeds going to support the Mahaska County YMCA. “The event is a great mix of fundraising and providing a fun community activity. The Y’s after school program played the course during a special field trip Friday afternoon. This was followed by the middle school night with over 130 kids participating in mini putt, bag toss, Just Dance, free throw shooting and hula hoop contests,” said Collins.
With a close race for the coveted People’s Choice award, Cablevey Conveyors squeaked out the win for the 2nd time. It was a very close race between Cablevey and ICI, the People’s Choice winner in 2012. “The competitive talk between the hole designers was fun to listen to. I can’t wait to see what the next year brings from our businesses,” said Linda Crookham-Hansen, Event Chair. “The event wouldn’t be what it is without support from our business community.”
“I would like to thank everyone who supported the event – sponsors, volunteers and community members who participated. But I especially thank the committee who put so much time and effort into planning and carrying out this event. The Y is fortunate to have so many people dedicated to our success,” said Collins.
Event proceeds will benefit the Mahaska YMCA’s efforts to enhance the Y with long overdue additions and updates. For more information about YMCA programs or to join the Y, go to the Mahaska County YMCA website at www.mahaskaymca.org or call at 641.673.8411.
