Osky Swimmers Compete In Ottumwa Dual

The Oskaloosa Indians drove to Ottumwa on Thursday night to take on the Bulldogs in a dual meet. They were paced on the night by Jack Miller who collected 2 first place finishes in both of his individual races and Owen Gordon pulled in a first place finish for the Indians as well.

The meet started off with the 200 Medley Relay with the four freshman on the blocks as Owen Gordon, Carson Abrahamson, Colin Fiechtner, and Jack Dawson took second place honors with a time of 1:59.33. The next race, 200 Free, Colton Berg earned a personal best and a second place finish in a time of 2:25.56. The third event on the night was the 200IM and Jack Miller set a personal best with a time of 2:13.79 to take the first place and Ean Beenken swam the race for the first time and finished with a time of 2:43.04 to take third place honors. In the 50 Free, Owen Gordon took third place honors with a personal best in a time of 25.28 and was followed closely by Carson Abrahamson who finished with another personal best in a time of 27.88.

During the first break Ottumwa took the time to recognize their 4 seniors and their families as it was their last home meet before moving to Conference, Districts, and state Championship swim meets.

After the break, Jack Dawson stepped up to the blocks in the 100 Fly and finished second with a time of 1:06.65. In the 100 Free Colin Fiechtner and Colton Berg lined up as they swam a 1:00.17 and a 1:01.54 for the Indians. The long grueling race on the night, 500 Free, was won by Osky’s Owen Gordon as he battled an Ottumwa swimmer the whole race and was able to have a little bit more in the tank on the last lap to beat him by 1 second with a personal best of 5:46.49. The next event on the docket was the 200 Free-style relay as Jack Miller, Colin Fiechtner, Ean Beenken, and Jack Dawson came away with second place honors in a time of 1:44.34. After a short break Jack Miller took the blocks in the 100 back and swam a 1:03.09 for his second first place finish. Jack Dawson was next for the Indians as he came away with a personal best and a second place finish in the 100 Breast with a time of 1:11.21. The final event was the 400 Freestyle Relay as Ean Beenken, Colton Berg, Colin Fiechtner, and Jack Miller took second place honors in a time of 4:04.69

The Indians swim again on Saturday as they drive to Newton for the Conference Championship meet. There last meet of the season is the District Swim meet the following Saturday at Indianola where if they want to swim at state their time must be one of the top 24 times in the state as there is no classifications in swimming.
