Osky Boys Tennis Suffers Loss At Home
by Tony Witt
The Oskaloosa boys tennis team was in action last night at home against Pella Christian. The weather conditions were perfect for tennis last night, however the boys still took a loss last night. They are a very young team with 3/4 of the team being their first year playing. The whole team has already shown improvements over the first match they played against Grinnell on Monday. They were more consistent with their groundstrokes and more aggressive with the net play in doubles. I told the boys that it will be a little rough at the start of the season but if they keep improving that they will be very competitive at the end of the season when it comes ready to play the conference tourney and the district tournament. Jakob Stek got the only win for the varsity last night in a 3 set match that took almost 2 hours to play.
Holden Braundmeir and Mason Muir played a great match and came up just short losing in the 3rd set tiebreaker. I am very pleased with how the team played and how they are improving with every practice and match they play.
The JV team came 7 to 4 win over the Pella Christian jv team last night. Ivan Montgomery and logan Meeks got a couple wins in singles and teamed up for a win in doubles as well. Cole VanderWal and Liam Dykstra got a win in doubles as well.
