Oskaloosa Girls U19 Team ‘Osky United’

Ames, Iowa – The Oskaloosa based U19 girls team, Osky United, competed in soccer at the Iowa Games held in Ames last weekend. Osky United was coached by Greg Walter and the team was made up of players from Oskaloosa, Pella, Grinnell, Norwalk and Rock Valley, Iowa.

Their first game against Bondurant was on Friday the 13th, but it was good luck for Osky United finishing with a 5 to 2 victory and gaining a head start toward the playoff game.

The second day of tournaments had the Oskaloosa team competing against Indianola, ending with a 3-0 victory for Oskaloosa. This game was followed by another victory over 641 United with a score of 4 to 1 bringing Osky United to the championship game against Fort Dodge United that would end in either gold or silver medals for first and second places.

The game was a battle to the end with each scoring back and forth for the first six points of the game, but in the last minutes Oskaloosa scored the goal that gave Osky United the gold!

Three “young ones” as they were referred to by assistant coach Clar Anderson from “Osky United” were proud to wear the winning gold. These soon to be sophomores and youngest on the team, agreed that it was a great experience playing with and learning from the older girls. With a victory score of 4-3, “Osky United”, hot and tired but happy, gained the first gold for an Oskaloosa U19 team in Iowa Games.

The girl’s came in second last year and they were not going to be satisfied with an another silver medal. “I was so proud of the effort the girls gave during this tournament. Several of the players will be too old next year to play at this age level and we wanted them to finish with a gold medal.” said Coach Greg Walter.

The Osky United team would like to thank Osky Foods, Pepsi, Leann and Doug Hasselman, Lori and Rod Seaton and Irvin DeBruin from DeBruin Trenching for their donations and support for 2012 Osky United Iowa Games Under 19 Girls Champions.
