Oskaloosa Swimmers Compete At Williamsburg
by Rachel Brown
The Oskaloosa Swim Team competed last night in Williamsburg against Williamsburg, Centerville, and Vinton-Shellsburg. The boys did a great job of competing and although many of them did not see times they were wanting, we came away with ideas of what we can do to keep on improving.
There are a couple of swimmers I would like to highlight from last night. First is Junior Payton Snyder. Over the last two seasons Payton has swam a variety of races and over the last couple of meets he has really started to excel in the 100 freestyle. Last night he had a personal best time of 1:02.15. He is getting closer and closer to his goal of being under 1:00. Next is Junior Jacob Jones. Jacob is new to the sport of swimming but you would not know that just from watching him swim. He has come such a long way this season and that showed tonight when I challenged him with swimming the 100 freestyle for the first time. At time trials earlier this season he went a 1:19 and last night in the relay he swam a 1:06! The last swimmer I want to highlight from last night is Freshman Oliver Smith. Oliver has been sick over the last two weeks and has only had a handful of practices before competing last night. I challenged him by putting him in the 200 freestyle and he had an amazing swim. His time was 2:20.94 and he placed 3rd!
Other highlights from the meet:
Medley Relay: (Roberts, Rupprecht, Briggs, Scholes) placed 4th
50 Freestyle: Briggs 7th Rupprecht 8th
100 Freestyle: Briggs 6th Scholes 8th Snyder 10th
500 Freestyle: Roberts 3rd
200 Relay: (Scholes, Rupprecht, Smith, Briggs) placed 3rd
100 Backstroke: Roberts 4th
100 Breaststroke: Rupprecht 3rd Scholes 7th Wilson 9th

The boys are HOME THURSDAY for their senior night! Come on out and support your Osky Swim Team @ 5:30!
