Eddyville, Iowa – The Oskaloosa Indians had seen an opportunity to end their winless streak slip away from them the night before, but they weren’t to be denied two nights in a row.

The Indians ended the first quarter of play behind, much like they have all season, as EBF lead the Indians 11-6 after the first quarter of play.

The Indians went on a 10-4 march in the second quarter, going into halftime leading 16-14.

The third quarter once again proved to be one of the Indians strong points of the game, outscoring the Rockets 14-8 to extend their lead. The Rockets battled back in the fourth quarter outscoring the Indians 14-11, but it wasn’t enough, as the Indians defeated the Rockets 41-36.

“I have girls that play hard day in and day out, game after game, and it’s nice to get some confidence with a win,” said Oskaloosa Indians Girls Head Coach Jacie White. “We’ve been telling them all along that you are capable, but it’s a completely different story when you actually do it.”

“I think now it will give us the confidence to be able to play at a higher level than we have been consistently,” added White. “I even told them this wasn’t our best basketball that we played tonight, and we can still pull out wins.”

The Indians slowed things down on Saturday and took their time against the 2-3 zone. “We did that pretty well, for the most part, tonight,” said White. “We’re just starting to click together and knowing what each other’s jobs are, and what my job is, and it’s coming together.”

The Indians were lead in scoring by Marleigh Denburger with 14 points. Jillian Jennings added 12 more points, while Macie Krier scored 6.

Denburger lead the Indians off the glass with 12 rebounds. Kaylee Johnson had 7 rebounds while Krier and Ashley Drost each had 5 rebounds.

The Indians travel to Norwalk on Tuesday night, with a tip-off time of 6:15 pm. You can listen live here on Oskaloosa News powered by Thunder Country KIIC.
