OSKALOOSA SENDS FIVE TO FINALS AT NEWTON; PARKER JORDAN WINS 215 TITLE

NEWTON — The Oskaloosa boys varsity wrestling team traveled to Newton on Saturday for the Newton Cardinal Classic and had a strong day on the mat.

Head coach Travis Miller said the Indians had five wrestlers in the finals and nine finish in the top four. Parker Jordan led the way by winning the championship at 215 pounds.

Oskaloosa also had four runners-up. Sam Nelson finished second at 120 pounds after going 5-1 in the tournament. Jett Stock took second at 138, finishing 3-3. Colton Shaffer placed second at 157, going 4-1, and Matthew Phillips also finished second at 175 with a 4-2 record.

Several other Indians placed in the top four. Emmett Dye placed fourth at 106. Jamison Ruby finished third at 132. Brock Beerbower placed fourth at 190, and Kyron Smith took fourth at 285.

Jordan went 5-0 on the day. He won two matches by fall and also received a forfeit, then earned a 5-1 decision in the semifinals before finishing the title run with a 4-2 decision over Newton’s Nick Milburn in the championship match.

The Indians will wrestle again Thursday in Norwalk.
